Ad Age magazine called Wal-, twenty steps back. Laura and Jims entire journey was orchestrated by Walmarts public relations firm, Edelman. Walmart paid for Laura and Jims airfare, travel, RV and gas. Laura and Jim are no ordinary couple trying to cross America. Jim is a photographer for The Washington Post, and his girlfriend of years, Laura, is a freelance writer. For Walmart, the negative publicity that followed the BusinessWeek article was not commensurate with the image gain from the blog.
Reached out to a lot of people, and for many, the blog is definitely worth reading, however, some Walmart employees and customers feel cheated. One message, however, went largely unnoticed. Laura and Jim have toured the Grand Canyon in an RV. As they drove past a Walmart, they saw a large group of other RVs whatsapp mobile number list parked in the parking lot. They thought it might be a meeting. At that time, the couple did not know that the parking lot could park for free. Laura had the idea of driving across the country, parking for free in Wal-Mart parking lots, and visiting the kids in the country. She also wants to blog about RV owners. Before she started, however, she asked permission from working families at Walmart.
As a result, Walmart got wind of the idea and ran a PR campaign based on the story. If Walmart had made the blog more organic and less mentioning of the company, Laura and Jims PR journey might never have come to light.
